A young Carl N. Karcher together with his wife Margaret borrow $311 and take a leap of faith in 1941 and use the money to buy a hotdog cart. Inside of five years one cart has grown into four and before long Carl's drive-in barbecue starts up having hamburgers on their menu.
To this day the Carl's Junior brand name continues its expansion with a firm emphasis on service, quality and cleanliness while pioneering food service concepts like the partial table service as well as the self-serve drink bars. With the release of the trademark six dollar burger in 2001 they have proven that they continue to lead the charge in advancing the quick service food industry. They have come a long way since their very first day operating when Carl N. Karcher did $14.75 in business. For the past 70 years and with now over 1200 restaurants Carl's Junior has long been known as the restaurant to go to along the West Coast for delicious, juicy charbroiled burgers.
